A 10-year prospective study in Germany investigated potential association between use of CIALIS and adverse events including sudden loss of vision, use of atenolol (medicine for anxiety), use of antidepressants including antidepressants including CIALIS, use of nitrates and warfarin and use of aspirin. After adjusting for other risk factors, the patients who experienced sudden loss of vision had an increase in the incidence of stroke, heart attack and coronary heart disease.
The results showed that patients who took CIALIS had a mean risk difference of 1.1 times that of patients taking nitrates; however, the CIALIS users had a mean risk difference of 0.9 times that of patients taking nitrates.
The patients who experienced sudden loss of vision were also the subjects of a double-blind, placebo-controlled study in Italy in which more than 300 patients were taking CIALIS for disorders that affected the retina.
A 5-year prospective study in Spain in which 1,200 patients were treated with CIALIS at 10 hospitals over 12 months showed a 3.8-times increased risk of sudden loss of vision in those treated with CIALIS compared to those taking placebo.

“I think there’s some kind of a market for drugs that are not approved, and it’s not a huge leap,” said Dr. Joseph N. Goss, a urologist at Johns Hopkins Hospital and one of the study authors.
In fact, the FDA has approved Viagra’s approval for use in patients with erectile dysfunction. It is the drug’s only drug, a drug used in a variety of sexual disorders, and it is used by men with erectile dysfunction who haven’t responded to the standard treatment.
